Dos and Don'ts of Trick-or-Treating

Here are some things you should do and not do while Trick-or-Treating.

DO:

1. Wear a costume.

2. Trick-or-Treat with a friend!

3. Carve a Jack-o-Lantern.

4. Say "Trick or Treat" to get candy!

5. Bring a glow stick.

6. Spread out the consumption of your candy to get the most enjoyment out of it.

DON'T:

1. Approach sketchy looking vans with men who offer you candy.

2. Trick or Treat after trick-or-treating hours have ended. The candy will probably be gone by then.

3. Eat all your candy in one night.

Happy Halloween everyone! Have fun and stay safe!!

Pet Peeves

Everyone has them. Pet peeves are those little things that always bother you more than they seem to bother others around you. Here are some of mine.

People who have a long social discussion with a bank teller/cashier/librarian/etc while there is a huge line.

When someone drives EXTREMELY SLOWLY.

When people forget to turn their directionals off for several miles.

When someone doesn't use their directional at all and slams on their breaks to make a turn

When someone is late to a scheduled meeting, call, etc.

Negative political advertisements that attack the opponent and don't even state the views of the candidate.

When people assume I am young because I am short.

Other pet peeves include:
  • Improper use of their/they're/there
  • Improper use of your/you're
  • Use of an apostrophe where there shouldn't be one

Bizarro vs. Cellphone

Remember a few weeks ago when I lost my phone? Here's what happened:

This is Bizarro. It used to be called Superman: Ride of Steel until 2009 when they painted it purple and added fire, lights, and fog effects. Bizarro is located at Six Flags: New England. It is an awesome ride that my cellphone and I had been on many times in the past. Unfortunately, this time something different happened.

My naughty cellphone somehow escaped the confines on my pocket (even though it was underneath the seatbelt, and Bizarro does not go upside-down)!

I noticed it was gone as soon as I exited the train. Adam and I were sent to guest relations to fill out a Lost and Found report. We waited until after the park closed and everyone left. The ride operators searched for my phone while we continuously called it from Adam's phone. No luck. They were unable to recover the phone. It rained that night, and all my hopes for getting my phone back were lost. :(

But this week, something amazing happened! A very lumpy envelope arrived at my house from SFNE. It was my phone! It is completely functional and the only damage I have noticed is a tiny scuff mark on the side of the blue case. There aren't even scratches on the screen! Yay! :-)

My stay at the Hyatt Harborside

I've been unable to write lengthy (read: good) posts because I have been (and still am) away from home!
On Tuesday I had an interview in Boston, MA and stayed the night with my Aunt who was there on business. She had a really fancy hotel room near the airport. I took some lovely pictures for you so you have something to look at until I get home on Friday.

A picture of the Hyatt Harborside. The glass part contains the elevators and the top is a lighthouse!

Boston and the harbor.

 A runway for airplanes! :)

 Closer-up of Boston

More Boston and the tiny walkway used for "exercise."

I won't be home until late tonight or Friday because I have another interview today! I might put up more pictures that I took at the hotel while I am away, though. Look forward to an awesome Halloween post this weekend. :)

Stress!

There probably won't be a very long post today or tomorrow: I am very stressed out.

Hopefully I will be able to come up with something better later today/tomorrow.

I have a really good post for Halloween, so look forward to that soon!

Catherine's Meme

1) Cats or Dogs?  If you had to pick one, which would it be, and why?

I have already clearly answered this question. But here is a video of my awesome kitty anyway.

2) What is the best dinosaur ever?  Why?

Compys. They are tiny and when they bite you they insert a tranquilizer into your blood so it doesn't hurt when they eat you!

3) What is the best dessert ever?

Apple Crisp with ice cream.

4) If you could build a bridge to the moon, what material would you use?

Glass! that way you could look out all the stars

5) Beef or Chicken?

Chicken!

6) If you could have ONE super power, what would it be?

Invisibility :)

7) What is one of your most guilty pleasures?

I have no idea.

8) Pie or Cake?

Cake!

I don't have 8 people to tag, so if you are reading this, I tag you!

Edit: Apparently I was supposed to ask 8 new questions...

1. What is your favorite color?
2. If you could be any element, what would you be?
3. What is your favorite kitchen utensil?
4. How do you picture yourself in 5 years?
5. What game could you play for hours without getting bored?
6. What is your favorite animal?
7. Are you: introverted or extroverted?
8. Do you have a dream job?

How Adam became my knight in "shining armor"

One day I was walking down the sidewalk on my way to meet someone.

Across the street, my boyfriend of less than two weeks noticed me and saw that I was about to walk in front of a moving car!

He freaked out and ran across the street.

...and pushed me out of harm's way.

I explained to him that it was Wednesday, and on Wednesday I go out for dinner. With my Aunt. In her blue car.

And that is how Adam met Auntie for the first time. :)

Why I like cats more than dogs

I realize this is an never-ending debate, but in my opinion, cats are better than dogs. (Please realize that this is a generalization, and not meant to be personal.)

"Why?" might you ask, "Dogs are always happy to see you!" while this is true, dogs are [usually] always happy to see EVERYONE, unless specifically trained to be a guard dog or something. Cats generally only like their humans.

*Drawings not to scale*

Also, dogs need to be washed on a regular basis. Like babies! Cats however, wash themselves. >^_^<

Cat mommies teach their kittens how to go potty. Dog mommies don't.

There are more dog owners in the U.S. but there are more cats per owner. This means cat owners love their cats so much they often have more than one!

Also, cats typically live longer than dogs. Dogs usually only live to be about 10-13 years old. Some larger dogs only live to be 7! Cats, however, can live to be over 20 years old if well cared for and kept indoors!

There are tons of other wonderful things about cats! They can catch mice, climb, learn how to use the toilet, know when they are full, purr when happy, go crazy if given catnip, are usually okay when their humans can't constantly pay attention to them, can jump REALLY HIGH, have an excellent sense of balance, are very intelligent, are really cute, come in a variety of colors and personalities, and so much more!

"Out of town, BBL"

I'm currently staying with my friend Ken so I may not update as often.

GLAAD's Spirit Day

I interrupt the regularly scheduled blog post to raise awareness about bullying. I know many of my blog posts are silly and/or funny, but this one is completely serious. Bullying is wrong. Many  teens (and adults!) are bullied to the point where they take their own life. No one deserves to be bullied. So today, I'm asking everyone to learn more about the harm bullying does.

Bullying is the cause of hundreds of suicides around the globe every year. Over 70% of students are bullied at some point during their years at school. It is also the most common cause of school shootings. Other effects of bullying include loss of self-esteem, depression, loneliness, and anxiety. Bullying is not limited to playgrounds: it exists in workplaces, homes, fraternities/sororities, schools, the internet, and the military just to name a few.

Spirit Day, hosted by GLAAD, is a way to remember the youth who took their own lives due to the anti-LGBT bullying they endured. It is a way to show your support for the people around you.

Thanks for reading, and please, PLEASE let others know too.

Strange things that happened at WPI #1

In my freshman year I was in a co-ed dorm. Half of my floor was girls and the other half was guys. There were two bathrooms, one for men and one for women. They were right next to each other, and in the middle of the floor.

One day, I was innocently brushing my teeth after showering.

While I was standing there in my bathrobe, some dude walked in and washed his hands in the sink next to mine. I finished brushing my teeth while looking at him as if he were a strange alien from another planet. Then on the way out of the bathroom I looked at the sign on the wall.

It turns out I was in the right bathroom and some girl's boyfriend didn't realize that there was a men's room on the same floor.

Washing Machines Are Complicated.

New washing machines are complicated. My family has an ancient washing machine from about 30 years ago. It still works.

My washing machine:

My Boyfriend's washing machine:

An airplane control panel:

EDIT:

I've been told that that was an exceptionally old picture of a control panel (or was it a picture of an exceptionally old control panel?). Either way, here is what a NEWER control panel looks like:

What's for Dinner?

My Boyfriend keeps asking me what I want to do for dinner. I'm almost never desiring something in particular, but here are some of my favorite things to eat:

I got the idea of making a graph from my new friend Catherine. Thanks, Catherine! :)

Creepy Noises in the Night...

Last night I woke up at some point to some strange whistling/clicking noises coming from the other side of my room.

I am terribly afraid of the dark (read: I am afraid of what is in the dark that is making noises while I am trying to sleep), so I immediately turned the light on. Nothing out of place could be seen, so I waited a little longer. Sure enough it made the whistling/clicking sounds again.

Suddenly brave again, I got out of bed and ventured over to the other side of the room.

The heat had come on! And this time, without the smoke.

So I went back to sleep. :)
